3 reasons to eat light this summer

summer networking with catering

Studies show that our bodies crave lighter food choices during the summer. This is because the body conserves more energy digesting these smaller meals, while bigger meals take more energy to consume, making you feel sluggish, particularly when the weather is warm.

In this blog post, we are recommending ways to keep cool and well-nourished during the summer. As a corporate caterer in Newcastle, we also have an exciting announcement for this season. Read on to find out more!

Keep cool

Lighter, cold meals throughout the day can improve brain function and lower metabolism, which can improve your overall health.

Yoghurt, raw veggies, and leafy green vegetables like spinach and even peppermint are known to have cooling properties and can make you feel more comfortable in high temperatures.

Stay hydrated

Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is not only good for your digestion – it is also good for keeping you cool and hydrated during the summer!

Vegetables such as cucumbers and a range of fruits have a high water content which can help prevent heat stress. Dehydration and heat stress can cause migraines, headaches and muscle strain. A wholesome lunch filled with vegetables and snacking on fruit throughout the day can help support hydration.

Improve your mindset

Eating a light but varied diet during the summer can improve your overall well-being.

When temperatures are high and you’re feeling sluggish, it can be tempting to reach for food and beverages with a high sugar content which can provide a temporary boost in stamina and brain function, however, the effects aren’t long-lasting and you can soon find yourself suffering from the dreaded sugar crash.

Incorporating whole foods and seasonal fruits and vegetables into your diet can ensure you feel energised throughout the balmy days.

The Olivia’s Kitchen Summer Menu

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our vibrant new Summer menu, which has been specially curated based on what we believe will make our clients feel their best this season.

If you’re looking to host a summer corporate event or want your guests to dine al fresco at your next networking meet-up, we have everything you need to ensure the occasion goes off with a bang!

The Olivia’s Kitchen Summer menu #1 offers a variety of light bites such as a selection of mixed wraps, skewers of chicken or mozzarella and cherry tomato, and an offering of flapjacks and fruit platters for a sweet finish.

Our Summer Menu #2 contains a fresh Mediterranean vegetable couscous salad, pitta bread, hummus and tzatziki dip, and a refreshing summer fruit pot.

These menus are set to be an absolute crowd-pleaser and for large events, we would recommend mixing this superb selection with our other menus for added variety.

The Salmon fillet or chicken breast pesto traybake from our Hot Menu is a favourite and would be a fantastic accompaniment to the summer menu couscous.
